Padraig Harrington is chasing one of his biggest paydays in recent years as he aims for a second US Senior Open.
The three-time major winner won the event back in 2022 and now goes in hunt for a second Seniors Major.
The Irishman will tee it up alongside Australia’s Mark Hensby and 2009 Open champion Stewart Cink, with the three players tied at the top on eight-under-par, while Ryder Cup-winning captain Thomas Bjorn sits one shot behind.
Harrington may well be one of the richest Irish sportspeople of all time, amassing millions in career earnings and will add a decent chunk to his net worth today if he can get over the line.
The prize for top spot is a cool $800,000 (€682,500) while the runner up will still net a nice $432,000 (€368,000).
In fact, Harrington could be nearly home and hosed, other than a poor back nine yesterday. The Dubliner carded a stunning four-under-par opening nine before making double on the par-three 12th and bogeying the 15th but a birdie on the 18th meant he’d have a share of the lead going into the final day.
Here is a full breakdown of the earnings.
