L-G calls upon auditors to contribute towards making U.T. the ‘BEST’

Hailing the contribution of Chartered Accountants (CAs) in nation building, Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan urged auditors to contribute towards making the Union Territory the ‘BEST (Business, Education, Spiritual and Tourism hub)‘ in the country, as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking at the sub-regional conference of the Southern India Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, the Lt. Governor said the CAs were the sentinels who ensured that economic policies were understood, implemented and improved upon.

“You act as custodians of public trust, advising not only corporate clients but also helping the government administration in streamlining tax collection, enhancing compliance and curbing financial irregularities,” he said.

Stating that Puducherry has enormous potential to emerge as a model region for sustainable development considering the territory’s rich heritage, diverse culture and intellectual depth, the Lt. Governor said the government would value partnering with the CAs whether it was for uplifting MSMEs, assisting in transparent governance or improving digital compliance.

“The auditors in Puducherry must act as economic enablers and trusted advisors. The government values such engagement and sees you as key contributors to build Puducherry’s image as a business-friendly region and to develop the territory in all aspects as the ‘BEST,’ as determined by the Prime Minister,” the Lt. Governor said.

The government, he said, was happy to look forward to auditors for guidance, clarity in policy implementation and for innovation in governance. “Whether it is facilitating GST, promoting start-up culture or simplifying audits for small business, you are critical partners in the journey. We expect from you not just technical proficiency, but a steadfast commitment to ethics, transparency and social responsibility,” Mr. Kailashnathan said.
