Benidorm’s bustling street market relocates for July festivities

Benidorm’s beloved municipal street market will temporarily move to the Recinto Ferial (Fairground) throughout the month of July. This annual relocation allows for the smooth running of summer festivities and music events held at the ‘Guillermo Amor’ Sports Complex and its surrounding area. The festive season kicks off with the Corpus pilgrimage organised by the Casa de Andalucía, followed by the Reggaeton Beach Festival on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 July.

Since Wednesday 2 July, around 240 are selling everything from food to clothing at the fairground site. The Department of Commerce has confirmed that the market will remain there until the end of July and will return to its usual location at Mercasa on Wednesday 6 August.

The Benidorm market has been a staple of local life for decades, dating back to the 1970s, when it began as a modest gathering of a few stalls near the old town. Over time, it has grown into one of the largest and most diverse weekly markets on the Costa Blanca, attracting not only residents but also thousands of tourists eager to experience its vibrant atmosphere.

For many locals, the market is more than just a place to shop – it is a social hub, a meeting point where neighbours catch up over churros, where visitors and residents mingle, and where bargains abound. Its popularity lies in its affordability and variety: fresh fruit and vegetables, traditional Spanish snacks, beachwear, souvenirs, handmade crafts and household items can all be found within its maze of colourful stalls.

Above all, the market embodies the spirit of Benidorm – inclusive, lively, and full of character. Whether you’re a local looking for a good deal or a visitor in search of an authentic slice of Spanish life, the Wednesday market at the Recinto Ferial promises a warm welcome and plenty of treasures to discover.
