Russian TV in meltdown as guest urges station to stop lying about destroying Patriot systems

Russian TV went into meltdown as a guest begged for the channel not to lie on-air . With tensions rising in the Middle East, international attention has ben drawn away from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine . However, for many Russian analysts, this has not been the case and have followed how much the war is costing the state. During one TV debate, former Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Fyodorov joined the panel to discuss Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. Titled “The Meeting Place”, hosts Andrey Norkin and Ivan Trushkin completed the line-up with political scient Anton Khaschenko as they looked at Russia’s steady military victories against Ukraine as its invasion goes on. Attention soon turned towards Russia’s military striking; in particular the Patriot systems that had been given to Ukraine by the United States during Joe Biden’s administration. Host Ivan added that Trump made several comments about “Ukraine’s insatiable appetite” for money and weapons from NATO. When speaking to guests Anton and Andrey, the hosts asked each guest on whether the number of Patriot systems given to Ukraine would be enough to stave off the Russian offensive. Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey was asked whether three to five different Patriot systems would be a success for Kyiv to take on the Russian military. Andrey explained that any Patriot systems would be a “big success” for Ukraine at this point in the war, as well as missiles that could be used to cause major damage to the Russian army. However, while he was trying to make his point about the success of previous Patriot systems being used by Ukraine, both TV hosts interjected to insist they had been destroyed. However, the former politician struck back, saying: “Listen, stop telling fairytales about destroyed Patriots.” The hosts fire back quickly: “I’m not telling you fairytales,” to which Andrey replied: “These are fairytales; only one system was destroyed and that’s it – let’s be serious.” While the hosts tried to calm the tensions down, Andrey continued to rant: “Other than you, no one will tell us this; we should stop presenting wishful thinking as facts.” Host Andrey Nokin shot back viciously, adding: “I always listen to you very carefully, because it always seems that you make it up as you go.” Political analyst Anton Khaschenko went on to challenge the former politician for his remarks, saying that he looked the figures up on his own and found contradictory evidence. “Do you mean to say that our Defence Ministry is lying?” Anton fumed, as Andrey calmly replied: “It provides unreliable information.” The confrontation was uploaded to social media a short time later, and many who watched the clip were left stunned at the bust-up between the two parties. One user joked: “Did he accidentally choke on some tea and fall out of a window soon after saying that?” A second account penned: “I don’t think we’ll see Andrey Vladimirovich again for a bit.” Whilst a third added: “Fyodorov better way from windows…” For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters .
