A security guard was arrested on Saturday in connection with the rape of a woman, who was a student of a Kolkata Law College, taking the total arrests to four. The police on Friday arrested three men accused of raping a law student inside the college premises. A local court remanded the three, all allegedly associated with the students鈥 wing of the ruling Trinamool Congress, in police custody till July 1. Meanwhile, one person has moved Calcutta High Court seeking intervention in the case.A medical examination of the victim, conducted earlier, confirmed sexual assault, neck bruises, and that force had been applied on the girl, people in the know told ET. The seven-hour CCTV footage has been recovered from the college and is being corroborated by police during the probe.The video footage, which was used to blackmail the victim, has been recovered from one of the accused鈥檚 mobile phones.The security guard was reportedly the sole witness of the crime, as per the police complaint filed by the victim. After interrogation since Friday, the guard was arrested this morning.Live EventsThe victim, in her complaint on Wednesday night, had said the security was a 鈥渉elpless witness鈥 who could not rescue her. She said she was forcibly taken to the guardroom within the college premises and the security guard was forced out of the room.The three accused鈥擬onojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay鈥攁ll have links to the Trinamool Congress鈥檚 students鈥 wing, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). Pictures of Mishra with various top and heavyweight Trinamool Congress leaders have already flooded social media.All three of them were remanded to police custody till July 1 on Friday.A day after taking suo motu cognizance, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar today wrote to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal, seeking full cooperation by the police to facilitate NCW member Dr Archana Mujumdar’s access to the victim and her family. The NCW had taken suo motu cognizance yesterday of the gang-rape incident reported at a law college in Kasba, South Kolkata.Meanwhile, the BJP organised protests across the state, with BJP Bengal President Sukanta Majumdar set to start a sit-in protest in Kolkata. BJP鈥檚 IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya said on Saturday that women getting raped unless they proved their loyalty towards the ruling Trinamool Congress had become a reality.During a scuffle with the police, BJP protesters broke barricades.
