A driver had a shock after discovering that their Jaguar had gone missing but the car keys had been untouched. The vehicle, an F Pace model, was stolen from an address in Wilton Close, Cannock , some time between 6.30pm last night and 8am this morning (June 28). Staffordshire Police say the vehicle was stolen without the use of keys, leading officers to believe it was a “relay theft”. A spokesperson for the force said: “Between 6.30pm on Friday June 27 and 8am today a black Jaguar F Pace has been stolen from an address on Wilton Close in Cannock . “The vehicle was stolen without keys so we believe this was a relay theft. “We are investigating the incident and local officers will also be attending the area to carry out house to house enquiries. “We are appealing for anyone with information or CCTV/Dashcam Footage to get in touch. “Our incident reference is 0204 of June 28.” Explaining more details about relay thefts, the spokesperson added: “Relay theft is a method used by criminals to steal vehicles with keyless entry systems. “Thieves generally work in groups using electronic devices whereby one stands near the house to pick up the signal from the car key, while the other stands near the vehicle to receive and relay that signal, tricking the car into unlocking and starting. “This can happen in seconds without the need for physical access to the key or any visible damage to the vehicle.”
