Emmerdale fans were left speechless as they realised that Rebecca Sarker and Chris Bisson previously appeared on a rival soap. Chris first arrived in the Dales as Jai Sharma back in 2009, alongside his on-screen brother Nikhil (Rik Makarem). During his time on the show, Jai has been part of several hard-hitting storylines, including battling a cocaine addiction and a custody battle with Rachel Breckle (Gemma Oaten) over their son, Archie (Kai Assi). Back in March, Jai was left frustrated that Steph Milligan (Georgia Jay) wasn’t pulling her weight at the depot, before sharing his suspicions about Anthony Fox’s (Nicholas Day) disappearance. Soap viewers will know that Anthony was killed by his daughter, Ruby (Beth Cordingly), back in January, after he sexually abused her as a child. After learning about the abuse, Jai apologised to the family for suspecting them of foul play and didn’t mention Anthony again. Meanwhile, Rebecca began playing village GP Manpreet Sharma in 2018, and has also been involved in several memorable plot lines. She almost lost her life at the hands of her sister, Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu), after the serial killer kidnapped her and kept her hostage for weeks. That’s not all, as Manpreet recently found herself caught up in a blackmail ordeal, after she posted personal images of herself on a subscription site. This led to threatening texts from an anonymous blackmailer, who warned her that she was being watched. While speculation swirled about the identity of the scammer, it was later revealed that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was behind the scheme, as he needed Manpreet’s assistance in acquiring a blood sample from his uncle, Caleb (William Ash). Despite Chris and Rebecca being best known for their work on Emmerdale, several fans were shocked to learn that they have also appeared on Coronation Street, where they shared a huge connection. Chris played Vikram Desai from 1999 until 2002. Vikram was Dev Alahan’s (Jimmi Harkishin) cousin and ran the corner shop before Dev took over. He also co-founded Street Cars with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson). Rebecca was already in Weatherfield playing Nita Desai, Vikram’s sister and his boss at the corner shop. Nita later left the family business to join Freshco supermarket, before leaving the street in 2000 to run her own store in Inverness. Meanwhile, Vikram opted for a one-way trip to Mumbai in 2002, after he tried to clear his gambling debts by drug smuggling. After learning Chris and Rebecca’s connection to the cobbles, several Emmerdale fans quickly took to social media to share their surprise. “Jai and Manpreet were together in Corrie in the past,” one person wrote on a Facebook fan group, alongside an image of the pair. Another added: “Super cool!” while a third said: “Wow that’s crazy.” A fourth fan echoed the sentiment, saying: “I remember them both so well, can’t believe they played siblings. So wild.” Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and is available to stream from 7am on ITVX
