Irish stars raise a toast to King Charles' birthday as British Ambassador reveals major news

The British Embassy in Dublin was the place to be as some of the best-known Irish celebs gathered together to raise a toast to King Charles.

The high-profile reception was hosted at the Ambassador’s residence to celebrate and foster relations between Ireland and England and mark the King’s official birthday.

Those in attendance on the night included Room To Improve star Dermot Bannon and former News at One anchor Bryan Dobson.

Dancing With The Stars was heavily represented on the night by way of a number of former contestants.

That list included Mary Kennedy, Nina Carberry, and Eileen Dunne, with Senator Aubrey McCarthy joking at one point that they were teaching him some moves.

Also stepping out for the party were judges Loraine Barry and Brian Redmond.

Elsewhere, the guestlist for the glitzy bash included Deric Hartigan, Oliver Callan and Claire Byrne.

Those in attendance heard from Ambassador to Ireland Paul Johnson as he wraps up his tenure after five years in Ireland.

Having played an important role in furthering Anglo-Irish relations, the Ambassador told guests that he was leaving his post behind, having fallen in love with Dublin.

He told guests: ‘People are the lights of every city. That’s what it’s felt like for Nicoal (his wife) and me in Ireland.

‘The people we’ve met have been the highlight of our time here. And it’s primarily because of the people that we’ve taken quite a big decision.’

The Ambassador announced that he had decided to leave diplomatic service, with the Irish Independent reporting that he is expected to take up a position in the education sector.
