Trinity lane claims ‘most scenic’ title for second time

TUCKED above the turquoise sweep of Bouley Bay, a leafy lane with winding stone walls, a trickling stream and fern-fringed banks has once again captured the hearts of environmental judges.

Rue de l’Épine in Trinity has been named the Island’s ‘most scenic lane’ for 2025, reclaiming a title it first won in 2010 in the annual contest run by the Société Jersiaise.

Ten parishes entered a lane to be judged on overall ambiance, biodiversity, branchage and added features.

Rue de l’Épine is located above Bouley Bay and connects La Vielle Charriere at one end with Rue de la Bergerie and Rue de la Petite Falaise at the other.

It features stone walls, ferns, pennywort and a running stream which the Société Jersiaise said created a “delightful ambience” and “natural and rustic feel”.

The judges, who represented the Environment Department, the National Trust for Jersey, and the Rotary Club de la Manche, also praised the area’s range of wildlife and plant species encouraged by a lack of pesticide used on the banks of the lane.

It is not the first time Rue de l’Épine has won the coveted scenic lane award – it also claimed the title in 2010.

St Brelade and St Clement did not enter this year’s contest, the former having won the 2024 competition with Rue du Conet.

The event was sponsored by the Rotary Club De La Manche, the National Trust for Jersey, the Environment Department and U3A (University of the Third Age).
