Liverpool are willing to bide their time to make a move for Newcastle sensation Alexander Isak . The Swedish forward has been identified as a potential signing for the Reds this summer as they aim to bolster their attack. Current striker Darwin Nunez has been linked with a move to Italian champions Napoli , which would leave a vacancy at Anfield. But a deal looked difficult given Newcastle were in no mood to sell, while they also put an eye-watering 拢150m asking price on Isak. But it appears that Liverpool actually have a plan in place to potentially seal a late deal. The Liverpool Echo have reported that Merseyside chiefs are happy to just keep an eye on developments as it stands. They believe that Newcastle could potentially need funds to finance an imminent spree in the market. The Magpies are chasing lucrative deals for James Trafford, Anthony Elanga and Joao Pedro – with a 拢100m+ deal for Isak going a long way in helping Newcastle afford those three deals. There is also the small matter of Newcastle鈥檚 efforts to keep Isak at St James鈥 Park. Previous reports have suggested that the Magpies were willing to make the striker the highest-paid player in the club鈥檚 history and it is suggested that Liverpool would have no issue in matching his demands. So, it may be wise for Arne Slot 鈥檚 side to actually bide their time to see how discussions go. Meanwhile, Liverpool could also have more freedom when it comes to PSR restrictions closer to the end of the window. Their mega money deals for Milos Kerkez , Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong look set to go into last season鈥檚 figures and given the Reds鈥 relatively low spending in the seasons prior, they have a lot of headspace, meaning another huge fee could potentially be affordable. Speaking last season, Eddie Howe was unable to give any guarantees that his star forward would stay in the North East. He said: “I never make those guarantees about any player and it鈥檚 not to do with Alex鈥檚 future but I鈥檇 be foolish to sit here and do anything like that. Do you think Liverpool could sign Alexander Isak this summer? Share your thoughts in the comments below 鈥淲e want to keep our strongest players, I鈥檝e said that ever since I鈥檝e been here and sat in this seat. We have to try and keep our best players and bring in more good players to make us even stronger because the ambition of the club and everyone connected with the club is long-term success and that鈥檚 the only way to get that.” Meanwhile, Isak has also confirmed his stance on his future. He said: 鈥淚 don鈥檛 know much, to be honest. From within the club and from our side there are absolutely no discussions. It鈥檚 just full focus on playing for me. There鈥檚 not much to say, really. I鈥檝e commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there. I鈥檓 not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, but we want to finish strong and reach the Champions League games. That鈥檚 where my focus lies. 鈥淭here is no reason for me to think about anything else (other than Newcastle). I feel incredibly comfortable at Newcastle. The only focus I have is on playing.鈥 Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
