The Athletics Association of Guyana’s (AAG) National Senior Championships sprinted out of the blocks yesterday evening in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the National Track & Field Facility, Edinburgh. With the setting sun painting a picturesque backdrop, athletes from clubs across the country delivered early fireworks, led by a commanding showing from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
In the distance races, Jelesa Wright of GDF set the tone in the Girls’ 5000m Final, clocking 20:33.50 to finish comfortably ahead of Upper Demerara’s Donnel Fraser (22:46.02) and Police Progressive’s Marissa Thomas (28:18.70). On the boys’ side, GDF’s Odida Parkinson put on a clinic in the 5000m Final, storming across the line in 16:16.15. He was trailed by Cleveland Thomas and Royston Fordyce, both of the Police Progressive Sports Club, who claimed second and third respectively.
