Trump Junks Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei's Claims That Tehran 'Won the War' Against Israel: 'You Got Beat to Hell'

President Donald Trump on Friday rejected Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei鈥檚 claims that Tehran had 鈥渨on the war鈥 against Israel and warned the US against launching future attacks on Iran. Speaking to reporters, Trump said Khamenei鈥檚 remarks ignored the reality of the damage inflicted during the recent 12-day conflict, in which US and Israeli strikes targeted key Iranian nuclear facilities. 鈥淟ook, you鈥檙e a man of great faith. A man who鈥檚 highly respected in his country. You have to tell the truth,鈥 Trump said of Khamenei. 鈥淵ou got beat to hell,” he added, as quoted by AP. Khamenei had earlier described Iran鈥檚 missile strike on a US air base in Qatar as a 鈥渟lap to America鈥檚 face鈥 and warned of retaliation if attacks continued. His pre-recorded message, aired on state television, was the first time he spoke publicly during the conflict, amid speculation about his health and role in Iran鈥檚 wartime decisions. While a Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) assessment suggested the damage may only have delayed Iran鈥檚 nuclear program by months, other intelligence sources, including those from Israel and the CIA, indicated severe and lasting destruction, including the loss of an enrichment facility. Trump further said Iran would have to allow inspections of its nuclear program, either by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or 鈥渟omebody that we respect, including ourselves.鈥 White House officials confirmed that new talks with Iran are expected, although no date has been set. Earlier this month, a planned sixth round of negotiations in Oman was canceled after Israel鈥檚 strike on Iran, reports AP.
