The Chicago Cubs have made quite a few bold decisions this year. The trades for Ryan Pressly and Kyle Tucker clearly indicated to the fans that Chicago was all-in to win this season. Now, with the trade deadline coming up, the Cubs will likely continue to make win-now moves. It wouldn’t be shocking to see Chicago swing more than one trade ahead of the deadline.Nicholas Selbe of Sports Illustrated recently predicted the Cubs would land a bold trade with the Colorado Rockies to acquire breakout reliever Jake Bird.”It’s hard to rack up whiffs in the high altitude of Denver, but Bird has managed to nearly double his strikeout rate (30.1%) from last year during his fourth season in the majors,” Selbe wrote. “The righthander has actually performed far better this year at Coors Field than on the road, though he’d likely figure out how to succeed in another home park once he isn’t constantly changing altitudes. The Rockies have precious few tradable assets and should probably cash in on a reliever who, while performing admirably, isn’t doing much to change their fortunes and is under team control through 2028.”Bird is the perfect reliever to add to Chicago’s bullpen. He might not be a closer who could rival Pressly for his job at the backend of games, but Bird would take a lot of the pressure off the Cubs righty and the rest of the unit.Bird has been great this season, posting a 2.62 ERA and 2.49 FIP, despite playing in the very hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field. The Cubs would need to cut ties with some solid prospects to land Bird, but it would be well worth it, especially considering he isn’t a free agent until 2029.More MLB: Red Sox Predicted To Cut Ties With $10.7 Million Star In Huge Trade
