New ladies hostel block inaugurated at AIISH in Mysuru

To meet the growing demand for accommodation of girl students, the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) has constructed a new block at the Ladies Hostel here.

Noorin Bux, Director, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated the facility on Friday.

AIISH Director M. Pushpavathi said the new facility would ease the accommodation constraints faced by girl students and enhance their academic experience on campus.

A national institute, AIISH attracts students from all parts of the country, with nearly 80% of its students being girls. The first block of the ladies hostel was built in 1968, with additional blocks added in 1991 and 2005. However, with the increase in intake for various academic programmes in recent years, there was a shortage of rooms in the existing hostel, a press release said.

The proposal for constructing the new block was approved during the 58th Executive Council meeting of the institute in May 2022. The project was implemented by the National Projects Construction Corporation Ltd. at a cost of ₹1.25 crore. The construction began in April 2024. The new block has 12 triple occupancy rooms to accommodate 36 students.
