Karnataka to host Cauvery aarti thrice a week near KRS reservoir: DK Shivakumar
With seating for 10,000 people—30 percent ticketed and the rest free—the event aims to showcase the cultural heritage of Mandya, Mysuru, Kodagu, and Mangaluru.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that the Karnataka government will organise Cauvery Aarti thrice a week near the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir in Mandya district.
Addressing concerns, he assured the event will not harm the dam’s structure.
With seating for 10,000 people—30 percent ticketed and the rest free—the event aims to showcase the cultural heritage of Mandya, Mysuru, Kodagu, and Mangaluru. It is expected to create jobs for at least 2,000 locals, including trained purohits and artists. Around 80 acres will be allocated for parking.
Departments of Water Resources, Endowment, Kannada and Culture, PWD, Tourism, and Energy will jointly host the event. Shivakumar noted that similar aartis in North India were studied before designing this programme.
While some have opposed the initiative, Shivakumar said all stakeholders will be consulted. Emphasizing Cauvery’s importance to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, he reiterated the state’s commitment to the Mekedatu project for water security.
