24-Hour economy policy to be launched on July 2

he Government of Ghana has announced that its flagship 24-hour economy initiative will officially launch on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Presidential Advisor on the policy, Goosie Tanoh, made the announcement during the formal presentation of the final policy document to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, on Thursday, June 26.

The 24-hour economy, a cornerstone of the National Democratic Congress鈥檚 (NDC) 2024 election manifesto, is designed to tackle unemployment, boost productivity, and stimulate economic growth by encouraging continuous, round-the-clock activity across key sectors.

Mr. Tanoh noted that the initiative is underpinned by three core pillars:

Transforming production systems

Strengthening supply chains and market linkages

Developing human capital for a modern economy

鈥淭hese pillars are reinforced by eight strategic sub-programmes that provide the operational framework for implementation,鈥 he said.

Among the key sub-programmes are:

Grow24 鈥 focused on modernising agriculture to enhance output and value addition

Make24 鈥 aimed at accelerating industrialisation and manufacturing

Connect24 鈥 designed to streamline and expand supply chain infrastructure

Aspire24 鈥 promoting a cultural and behavioural shift toward a productivity-driven society

A major highlight of the policy is the integration of digital skills training into the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system, aimed at preparing young Ghanaians for future job opportunities in a tech-driven economy.

Additionally, the Show Ghana initiative will promote the country鈥檚 cultural heritage and tourism potential as a means of generating foreign exchange and strengthening national identity.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin welcomed the initiative and praised its ambition, but urged the government to pursue legislative support to ensure the policy鈥檚 sustainability.

He encouraged the 24-hour Economy Secretariat to work closely with Parliament to draft and pass a bill that would institutionalise the programme, protecting it from political changes and ensuring long-term impact.

The official launch on July 2 is expected to mark a significant milestone in Ghana鈥檚 economic transformation agenda. The government views the 24-hour economy as a bold and innovative step toward building a more resilient, inclusive, and dynamic national economy.
