Rock band Franz Ferdinand are set to perform at Glastonbury Festival today as the first official day of music kicks off. Some 200,000 music lovers have gathered at Worthy Farm in Somerset to celebrate music from across the world. More than 3,000 artists are set to perform over the next three days. Performers include Olivia Rodrigo, The 1975, Lola Young, Rod Stewart, RAYE, Busta Rhymes, Myles Smith and Gracie Abrams among many other major names. Although gates opened on Wednesday, the official line up begins today, with performances from Biffy Clyro, Alanis Morissette, Rizzle Kicks, PinkPantheress and more. On top of the named acts, there is a ‘TBA’ slot at 4:55pm at the Pyramid Stage, leaving music fans guessing at who might show up. Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand are set to take to the Other Stage this afternoon for an hour-long set between fellow rock band Wet Leg and American pop star Gracie Abrams. The band formed in Glasgow in 2002 and secured multiple top 20 hits in the 2000s as well as getting nominated for several Grammy Awards and Brit Awards, of which they won one. They released their sixth studio album, The Human Fear, in January this year. The release reached number three on the UK Albums Chart and number one on the Scottish Albums Chart. Franz Ferdinand are no strangers to Glastonbury having played the festival several times during their early years. In 2008, the band shocked festival-goers by turning up to play a secret set on the Park Stage, four years after their previous appearance on the Other Stage in 2004. The band also returned the following year to headline the Other Stage and again in 2015 as part of the supergroup FFS, which they formed with Sparks. This year, Franz Ferdinand will be back to wow crowds with their new music ahead of a UK tour next year. Franz Ferdinand are performing at the Other Stage on Friday, June 27, at 5.15pm with a one-hour set, ending at 6.15pm. They will be playing after Wet Leg and before Gracie Abrams.
