PM Modi's Argentina Visit Ahead of BRICS Summit: Terrorism, Lithium, and Trade on Agenda

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi鈥檚 visit to Buenos Aires early next month, India and Argentina will 鈥渄iscuss terrorism.鈥 A joint declaration on the threat of terrorism is also expected. PM Modi is expected to be in Argentina just before the BRICS summit on 6-7 July and before that, Trinidad and Tobago, which has a large number of people of Indian origin. One of the first countries to condemn the Pahalgam attack was Argentina, which suffered two major terror attacks in the 1990s, in which 30 and 85 people were killed and hundreds injured. PM Narendra Modi will meet Argentine President Javier Milei, and the three other major issues on the agenda are lithium, agriculture, LNG and also,and nuclear cooperation. Lithium is the fuel of the future as it is an essential requirement for green technologies and Argentina, along with Chile and Bolivia have huge deposits. In fact, Indian mining firms are already at work in the Catamarca province of northern Argentina. Indian firms are keen on working with Argentina in mining for copper, another new-age ore, and gold. Argentina is keen to export agricultural products like sunflower oil, corn, wheat and soya beans. It is also keen to sell LNG, an important issue, keeping in mind the political instability in the Gulf region, where a fragile ceasefire currently holds.
