Ahmedabad Biker Gets Swept Away In Drainage Line, Body Found After 9-Hr Search Operation - VIDEO

Following heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad after 7 PM on Wednesday, June 25, several areas of the city experienced flooding. Localities in the eastern region such as Maninagar, Vatva, CTM, Hatkeshwar, Nikol, Odhav, and Virat Nagar were among the worst affected. In Odhav鈥檚 Ambikanagar area, near the Mogal Mata Temple, a biker was swept away in the water flow near the Kharicut Canal and got trapped in a drainage line. The fire brigade launched a massive rescue operation and, after nearly 9 hours of continuous effort, recovered the body about 200 feet from where he was swept away. There was a large drainage trench next to the Kharicut Canal, through which a drain directly flowed into the canal. Although barricades had been placed around the area, they collapsed due to the heavy rainfall. It is suspected that the biker was washed into the drainage line by the force of the water. Despite the relentless rain and strong water flow, which made it nearly impossible to access the drain, the rescue team, aided by additional equipment, continued their search. Across Gujarat, 170 out of 252 talukas recorded at least 1 mm of rainfall. While six talukas received over 100 mm, 25 others saw more than 50 mm of rain. The forecast predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Navsari, Valsad, Rajkot, Junagadh, and Kutch on Friday. Several other districts, including Gandhinagar and Mehsana, are also likely to receive heavy rain.
