The Peachland Food Bank applied for a $1,000 civic grant, but will get $6,000 instead.
Peachland council on Tuesday considered requests from the food bank and Peachland Watershed Alliance for maximum civic grants of $1,000.
The food bank鈥檚 application included a note saying 鈥淏ut hopefully $6,000.鈥
鈥淚 know they asked for $1,000 because that鈥檚 what they can ask for. In speaking with the food bank, they鈥檙e really in dire need of a bit more money because there are over 300 people that are depending on their services, and more and more are coming,鈥 Mayor Patrick Van Minsel explained to council.
Other Peachland groups were approved for three years鈥 worth of funding last year and didn鈥檛 need to reapply.
Coun. Terry Condon said he was surprised there was no grant application from the Peachland Ambassador Society.
The group had excess funds left over from the previous year, explained corporate officer Jennifer Sawatzky.
Council unanimously supported the two applications and increasing the grant for the food bank.
