The University of the South Pacific (USP) has made notable progress in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) impact rankings.
This measure how universities worldwide are contributing to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
USP improved its performance in two key areas: SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). It also maintained strong rankings in SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
Overall, USP has been placed in the 801鈥1000 band out of 2318 institutions assessed globally鈥攁n increase of over 350 participating universities compared to the previous year.
USP Vice-Chancellor and president, Professor Pal Ahluwalia said the rankings highlighted the institution鈥檚 growing impact on education, sustainability, and regional development.
鈥淭hese rankings are a trusted global measure of how well universities are advancing the SDGs,鈥 he said.
鈥淥ur performance reflects the dedication of our staff, researchers, and students.鈥
He said USP鈥檚 efforts aligned with its leadership role in the Pacific and its contributions to the 2050 Blue Pacific Strategy.
Professor Ahluwalia also noted that the university鈥檚 new Centre for Sustainable Futures (CSF) is further strengthening its focus on critical issues such as ocean health and climate change.
