Pune Techies Frustrate Over Hinjewadi's Poor Roads Due to Rain Fury - What's The Solution?

Pune News: The recent rain in Pune wreaked havoc in Hinjewadi that houses Rajiv Gandhi IT Park, Maan and Marunji. This also highlighted the deteriorating situation of the area each monsoon. During the recent rain, several roads were restricted due to severe waterlogging on the road. This added to the woes faced by IT employees to reach their offices. Now, they are seeking solutions for the betterment of the area. As per a TOI report, they are once again demanding that the area be merged with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) so that it can be maintained well. At the moment, the area is jointly handled by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), PCMC, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and local village panchayats. Residents say this scattered approach is holding back progress. 鈥淚n a recent meeting held by PMRDA, officials themselves seemed confused about who鈥檚 responsible for what,鈥 said Pawanjit Mane, a tech professional leading the residents鈥 campaign, the report added. Merging Hinjewadi with PCMC would make things simpler and more accountable.鈥 Supporting the movement, the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has launched an online petition on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), which has already gathered over 10,000 signatures. The petition reflects widespread frustration over slow or no response to basic issues like drainage, road maintenance, and water supply. While agencies like MIDC and PMRDA have power, residents feel that a lack of coordination between them leads to delays and half-hearted solutions. 鈥淚f we had one civic body in charge, they could plan better and actually get things done without stepping on each other鈥檚 toes,鈥 said Mane. Baramati MP Supriya Sule has also stepped in. She has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, calling for expert help to deal with the flooding problem. In her letter, she described the flooding as a 鈥渟ystemic failure鈥 and called for a proper scientific study of the drainage and water flow patterns in the area. She said unplanned construction and blocked natural water paths have made things worse, turning even moderate rainfall into a crisis. Sule wants the government to set up a joint committee involving PMC, PCMC, PMRDA, MIDC, the police, MahaMetro, and experts from fields like sewage, flood management and urban planning. 鈥淭his is not just a seasonal headache 鈥 it shows a much deeper planning failure,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e need a proper long-term solution, not just quick fixes.鈥 MIDC鈥檚 Pune chief engineer, Nitin Wankhede, said some steps have been taken recently to improve coordination.
