People do get a little confused about this, so let’s break it down. “If you’re getting a single trip policy, so that is a policy to cover just one holiday then what you do is as soon as you book, you go on one of the travel insurer’s website, you tell it your holiday dates and you buy the policy then. “That means you have the travel insurance in place to covers that holiday. “You don’t need to [cover yourself] for extra dates [in case there’s a delay at the airport] because you have your return date. “If something delays you, so you weren’t back, that would still be covered because that delay is all part of the travel insurance.” Martin previously spoke about this on his eponymously titled ITV show, saying: Travel insurance is not just to cover you while you’re away. It’s also very important to cover you in case something happens before you go that stops you going. So I have a rule that, you’ll hear why I’m taking a deep breath in a moment… “I have a rule: you should get your travel insurance ASAB – as soon as you book. ASAB…” He added: “Now, the reason I do this is every year someone asks me a question something like, ‘I’ve been diagnosed with cancer. We can’t go on the holiday. “They’re saying we can’t have our money back. What do I do?’ And I’m impotent. “Because the answer is, you get on your travel insurance. And they say, ‘Well, I haven’t got my travel insurance yet’. Do not get your travel insurance the day before you go. You get your travel insurance ASAB.” Join our dedicated BirminghamLive WhatsApp community for the latest updates sent straight to your phone as they happen.
