TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The commander of the Indonesian armed forces (TNI), General Agus Subiyanto, claims that armed conflict between countries is a real threat that can break out anytime, including in Indonesia. The commander stressed the importance of national readiness in the wake of growing global turmoil during the closing ceremony of an Indonesian Armed Forces Staff and Command School (Sesko) event in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday, June 24.”The likelihood of conflicts between countries is inevitable, and war can happen anytime in any country, including in our country. This dispels the view that national defense is not a priority. On the contrary, we must be prepared for war because we desire peace,” said Agus in his official statement quoted on Thursday, June 26, 2025.The closing of this education program marks the completion of a strategic undertaking attended by 212 middle-ranking officers from the TNI, the National Police, and militaries from friendly neighbors. This program is designed to produce leadership figures capable of addressing future defense challenges.Agus also called for a collective awareness by “all walks of society, ministries, and institutions” on the uncertain global situation. “We must be ready to fight to defend our sovereignty,” he said.He also urged the graduate officers not to hesitate to bring about innovations within the military, as long as they remain grounded in the basic values of the Indonesian armed forces. One of the most concerning geopolitical conflicts in recent times is the escalating tension between Iran and Israel. After several days of war, Iran and Israel are currently observing a ceasefire. The deal seems to hold thus far, but there is still much uncertainty regarding the conflict, including whether the ceasefire will lead to permanent peace.Editor’s Choice: TNI Criticized for Violating Rules in Recruiting 24,000 New Members to Handle Food AffairsClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
