The Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, has stated that the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong—who has declared his intention to contest the presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—is not fit to be elected President.
She has therefore appealed to NPP delegates to take whatever he offers to influence their vote—but ultimately vote against him.
According to Madam Daniels, politics in Ghana has become so cheap that individuals like Bryan Acheampong believe they are qualified to occupy the highest office of the land.
She further noted that some communicators for the aspiring candidate are going around claiming that a vote for Bryan Acheampong is a vote for diligence and competence. However, she questioned his credibility, pointing out that hospital projects in his own constituency remain abandoned.
She added that despite being appointed to various ministerial positions, the lawmaker failed to leverage those roles to ensure completion of the hospital project in his own area.
“Politics has become so cheap that Bryan Acheampong wants to be president. He should give us a break and go sit somewhere. He is not fit to be president, and he should forget about it. He is like salt that has lost its value—he has no track record to warrant elevation to the presidency,” she said.
She further stated, “Bryan Acheampong was among those who mismanaged the economy. He accumulated wealth while in government, so I encourage the delegates to take his money and vote against him. He cannot be our president—he brings no value. I have never met him, but I don’t believe he has the competence required to be elected president.”
