Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali is stepping into the world of dinosaurs with sci-fi action film Jurassic World Rebirth, featuring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. His role as the modern-day pirate Duncan Kincaid, who is good at heart, is very special to him. The reason?
It is because his eight-year-old daughter, Bari, would be able to watch the film without any restrictions.
Mahershala, best known for his roles in Moonlight, Swan Song, and Green Book, said, 鈥淚 appreciated having an opportunity to be in something that my daughter could actually go see.鈥
He also shared that he was excited to play the kind of role of Duncan because it is something that rarely comes his way. 鈥淒uncan felt so different from anyone else that I鈥檝e played with in recent years,鈥 he added.
Opening about his character in Jurassic World Rebirth, Mahershala mentioned, 鈥淗e鈥檚 very active, always in motion, driven by clear purposes. I was excited as an actor to hook into that and play that.鈥 The 51-year-old actor also shared why he chose Duncan, revealing, 鈥淚 haven鈥檛 read a lot of action-adventure scripts before, but this one struck me as a thrilling expression of that genre.鈥
At the premiere of Jurassic World Rebirth on Monday, June 23, Mahershala spoke to Entertainment Tonight about his daughter鈥檚 reaction to his upcoming actioner. 鈥淚 need to ask her what she was most blown away by, but I think she loved the movie,鈥 he revealed. The actor mentioned that it was the first time that his eight-year-old watched a film of his from beginning to end.
鈥淚 think she loved getting to see me in something because she鈥檚 seen me working in little pieces and parts. She鈥檚 seen scenes of things, but there鈥檚 nothing I鈥檝e ever been able to really share with her from beginning to end,鈥 he told the outlet.
Mahershala, who welcomed Bari with his wife Amatus Sami-Karim in 2017, talked about his experience. He shared that it was 鈥渘ice鈥 watching the film with her and experiencing her reaction to the movie because she likes the Jurassic film series.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, Jurassic World Rebirth will take place after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. The story will revolve around a team that will be tasked to extract genetic material from the three biggest dinosaurs to make a life-changing drug.
Jurassic World Rebirth will hit the theatres on July 4.
