The 25th MILO Secondary Schools Basketball Championship kicked off with electrifying regional finals.
Adamawa and Bayelsa States claimed double victories in the Savannah and Eastern Conferences, setting the stage for an epic national showdown in Lagos from June 20鈥27, 2025.
Savannah Conference: Adamawa鈥檚 Commanding Sweep
In Kano鈥檚 Sani Abacha Stadium, Adamawa State stole the spotlight. Government Girls Secondary School, Yola, crushed Ahmadiyya Secondary School, Kano, 75鈥33, with Purami Dickson earning MVP honours.
鈥淚 am overjoyed. It鈥檚 a dream come true. I thank God, my teammates, and MILO,鈥 she said.
The boys鈥 team, Government Secondary School, Numan, secured a 71鈥45 win over the same opponents, led by MVP Joseph Albert Vandu, who noted, 鈥淭his means everything to me鈥 Thank you, MILO.鈥 Adamawa鈥檚 teams now advance to the national finals.
Eastern Conference: Bayelsa鈥檚 Thrilling Wins
At Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Bayelsa delivered heart-stopping performances to also book a spot.
Bishop Dimieari Grammar School, Yenagoa, edged Urhobo Model College, Effurun, 41鈥34 in the boys鈥 final, while St. Jude鈥檚 Girls Secondary School, Amarata, clinched a dramatic 44鈥43 victory over King Amachree Academy, Port Harcourt.
鈥淭his tournament is more than just basketball, it鈥檚 a platform for growth,鈥 said Charles Ikpe, Category Development Executive. Bayelsa joins Adamawa in Lagos.
Looking Ahead
The Central Conference saw Niger State鈥檚 Father O鈥機onnell Science College and FCT鈥檚 Government Secondary School, Karu, secure their spots with 54鈥38 and 33鈥28 wins, respectively. The Western Conference in Ibadan completed the lineup.
