The Greater Manchester pubs praised for going 'above and beyond' in shortlist for top new awards

A leading pub operator has put up a number of its pubs across the country – including five in Greater Manchester – for a brand new collection of awards. Proper Pubs, which is part of Admiral Taverns, will be hosting its first-ever Awards Gala next month, recognising special achievements within its collection of more than 200 sites across England, Scotland and Wales. The award categories include best new pub, the community pub of the year and sports pub of the year, with the winners being unveiled at an event in Chesterfield on July 31. The venues have been nominated by their Business Development Manager for going the extra mile in supporting the communities they serve. For the Entertainment Pub of the Year award, two venues in Oldham have been nominated including the Town Hall Tavern, on Yorkshire Street. It has weekend performances from local singers, a Monday bingo and karaoke showcase, and regular sports screenings. It will even host its own summer festival in August with singers, DJs, and raffles. Commenting about its nomination, the pub said: 鈥淭own Hall Tavern is proud to announce that we have been SHORTLISTED for鈥 ENTERTAINMENT PUB OF THE YEAR!!! 鈥淲e as a team want to thank each and everyone of our customers, all our Singers that turn up every week, our amazing DJs who are here week in and week out, all our hard working staff, and most of all a HUGE thank you to Proper Pubs for the nomination. Win or lose we will have a booze for this amazing honor.鈥 The Pineapple Inn, on Rochdale Road in Shaw , has also been nominated in the category. The pub, which is more than 100 years old, regularly hosts live gigs and performances, including weekly DJ slots, karaoke events and quiz nights. The Outstanding Achievement Award saw five pubs across the country receive a nomination, including the Keg & Thread in Bolton . The Halliwell Road pub hosts a free pool night and also hosts live sports screenings and events. Also nominated for the Outstanding Achievement award is the Church Inn, which is on Chorley Road in Swinton . The pub, which was also nominated in the Marketing & Social Media Pub of the Year, recently underwent a refurbishment and is known for its live music nights and its screenings of sports and racing events. One recent customer of the pub left a review online saying: 鈥淕reat pub with a great atmosphere. Helpful and friendly staff. Good selection of beers, wines and spirits all reasonably priced. Definitely go again. Highly recommended.鈥 Victoria Bar in Glasgow and Wolverhampton鈥檚 Ashmore Inn were both also nominated in the Outstanding Achievement award category. All of the winners will be officially unveiled at an event on July 31. In addition, one of the nominated pubs will also be crowned on the night with the overall 鈥楶roper Pubs鈥 Pub of the Year鈥 title. Mark Brooke, Managing Director at Proper Pubs, said: 鈥淥ur pubs sit at the heart of their local communities and are constantly going above and beyond for customers and residents, from charity fundraising to hosting brilliant entertainment, so it鈥檚 only right that we acknowledge these incredible achievements. 鈥淥ur operators are the face of Proper Pubs and we are so proud of all the work they do day in and day out. I鈥檇 like to extend my thanks to all our pubs and to congratulate every single operator for all their incredible hard work. 鈥淥n behalf of myself and the whole team at Proper Pubs, I鈥檇 like to wish the very best of luck to all the finalists and I look forward to celebrating with them next month.”
