Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has not been seen in public nor heard from in nearly a week since Iran and Israel agreed to end a ceasefire plan brokered by the US. This has led to growing concerns in Iran over his continued absence. Khamenei was reportedly taken to a secure location when the open conflict erupted on June 13. As per The New York Times, he is likely still in hiding due to fears that Israel could try to assassinate him even during the truce. “We should all be praying. The people who are responsible for protecting the supreme leader are doing their job well. God willing, our people can celebrate victory next to their leader, God willing,” an aide who leads Khamenei鈥檚 archives office was quoted as saying by the publication. Khamenei Protected by Elite Unit Even Top Iran Officials ‘Never Knew Existed’ According to reports, Khamenei is protected by rigorously vetted bodyguards who were kept hidden even from top officials within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Khamenei, in power for three decades, faces rising threats to his life from within Iran, officials in Tehran told the UK Telegraph.. “He’s not hiding from death, he’s not in a bunker,” an Iranian official told the UK Telegraph. “But his life is in danger, and there is a unit responsible for his protection that no one even knew existed to avoid any chance of infiltration.” It is believed that Israeli agents has infiltrated various levels of the Khamenei regime, and are waiting for orders to eliminate the Iran Supreme Leader. Khamenei Was Moved To Bunker After US Strike On Iran The Supreme Leader was not in a bunker until the US entered the Iran-Israel war Sunday by targeting three nuclear facilities in the Islamic Republic. The nuclear site in Fordow – a difficult-to-destroy underground site – was the primary target. Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites were the other two that were targeted by the US. As per reports, the Iran Supreme Leader has reduced his communication to trusted aides and has suspended all electronic forms of contact. This step was taken to make it harder for external forces to track his location, according to three sources familiar with Iran’s emergency war plans, who spoke to The New York Times. In the past, Israel displayed its espionage depth and strike capabilities with Hezbollah pager blasts and targeted assassinations of anti-Israel leaders. Preparing for the worst, Khamenei has also prepared a list of potential successors. Several replacements in the military chain of command have also been prepared to ensure the operations don’t get affected if his “valued lieutenants” get killed in the ongoing conflict.
