'I tried viral Dubai chocolate desserts and there was only one thing missing'

It’s a simple fact that Dubai chocolate and the hype around pistachio-flavoured things are going absolutely nowhere. When people are happy to pay upwards of £20 for something, you know that it’s not going to disappoint.

However, more affordable brands have tried their hand at making their own versions of Dubai chocolate items. Aldi has attempted it, but it was branded by one social media user as tasting like “cardboard”. Meanwhile, Lindt’s version was dubbed “daylight robbery” by someone who couldn’t believe the price.

So when Creams Cafe attempted to outshine the competition, I was intrigued to say the least. Taking to Instagram, Creams shared a picture of the shake, penning: “Our Dubai Chocolate loaded shake has only been available in our cafes for a week, but the demand has been insane! The Dubai Chocolate craze is clearly here to stay!”

So, did the Creams desserts live up to other Dubai chocolate items I’ve tried? There was only one way to find out!

Dubai Choc Loaded Shake

First off, I tried the Dubai Choc Loaded Shake, which is described on the website as being pistachio gelato blended with milk, chocolate shards and vanilla soft serve in a glass lined with crispy chocolate shell.

It sits on a base of pistachio kunaife crunch filling and is topped with more chocolate shell, pistachio sauce and kunaife pastry. It’ll set you back £8.45, so it’s much pricier than a bog standard milkshake.

When I was given the milkshake, I was a little disappointed at first glance. On the website, it looks green, which surely means more pistachio flavour, right? The one I was given was brown and it did taste pretty much like a chocolate milkshake with a tiny bit of pistachio cream at the bottom.

When you could taste the pistachio cream, it was so much better, but I feel like it wasn’t distributed well across the milkshake. I would’ve preferred it to be the green shade of the image.

The pieces of pastry were a delight too – and really made the milkshake feel more luxe than your average. Overall, I thought it was a very tasty chocolatey milkshake, but I would’ve preferred more pistachio.

Dubai Choc Sundae

So, what about the Dubai Choc Sundae? I didn’t think I wasn’t going to like this as much as the milkshake, as I’m not overly an ice cream person, but it was yummy.

The website promised layers of chocolate chip and pistachio gelato, chocolate sauce, pistachio sauce, chocolate shards and vanilla soft serve. This was served on a base of pistachio kunaifa crunch filling.

I think this one reigned supreme because you could properly taste the pistachio ice cream and it didn’t get lost in the other flavours.

However, considering it’s a Dubai chocolate dessert, I’d like to see less vanilla, more chocolate and even more pistachio. If you want to try this offering, it will also set you back £8.45.

If you’d like a say in the future of Creams desserts, you can apply to be a member of their ‘Palate Panel,’ which means a year of free Creams. To apply, email marketing@creamscafe.com

Creams Cafe CEO, Everett Fieldgate, said: “Creating a Dubai Choc dessert that lives up to the quality of the original is not an easy task, as several other brands have demonstrated. But at Creams, we’ve taken time to actually deliver two truly indulgent Dubai choc creations that will meet our customers’ high standards.

“And now, with our new Creams Palate Panel, we can continue to ensure all our future products are of the very highest quality, so that the UK doesn’t have to be disappointed by half-baked attempts any longer”.

And, to that, I’d say, just a little heavier on the pistachio, and you’d be just right!
