Vodafone Fiji chief executive officer Elenoa Biukoto has clarified that customers will only incur a $3 fee if they upgrade their e-Ticketing card more than three times.
Ms Biukoto made the clarification during a talkback show on Fijivillage last night, following ongoing complaints from customers about the new e-Transport card and its associated costs.
She said while efforts are underway to upgrade the cards of over 200,000 registered users, complaints continue to surface, particularly regarding the transfer of funds from blocked cards, upgrade fees, and related issues.
Ms Biukoto said users still using the original card issued by the company, as well as its first replacement, are not required to pay any fee.
鈥淛ust to put this into perspective, our customers on the travelling system is around 350,000- 400,000; in the first roll out we had issued more than 2.4 million cards,鈥 she said.
鈥淭hat were a lot of lost cards, some abuse and that鈥檚 what we are working towards in terms of being responsible for your own card.鈥
She said the newly imported cards, which feature upgraded technology, cost $4.20 each upon arrival in Fiji. Vodafone also incurred expenses as part of the upgrade.
Ms Biukoto acknowledged the end-of-month deadline but urged the public to be patient, assuring them that the upgrade would ultimately benefit both users and the country as a whole.
Customers have been advised to call Vodafone鈥檚 toll-free line, 151, to lodge complaints or make inquiries.
