KUCHING, June 26: Sarawak鈥檚 renewable energy initiatives, particularly the floating solar project in Bakun, have captured the attention of Australia鈥檚 Northern Territory, paving the way for deeper cooperation between the two regions.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Northern Territory of Australia Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations Robyn Cahill shared that the Bakun project is a key area of interest that will be presented to their Energy Minister as part of discussions on clean energy collaboration.
She said this in her speech during the 鈥楢ustralia鈥檚 Northern Territory Networking Dinner鈥 last night.
Robyn further noted that Australia鈥檚 Northern Territory is also focusing on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), opening up opportunities for further discussions and knowledge sharing between Sarawak and the Northern Territory of Australia.
鈥淪arawak and the Northern Territory of Australia have many similarities in the history of the struggle for more autonomy from the federal government.
鈥淓fforts to strengthen government-to-government and people-to-people relations between the two territories are important.
鈥淥ur government has only been in power since August last year, which is not even a year old, but has recorded a lot of progress,鈥 she said.
鈥淲e are confident that the opportunity exists with Sarawak and will continue to build on the relationship that has been built,鈥 she added.
Also present at the event was Sarawak Deputy Secretary to the State Government (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee. 鈥 DayakDaily
