'Communist Lunatic': Trump Slams Indian-American Zohran Mamdani Day After NYC Primary Upset

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday expressed his displeasure after Indian-American politician Zohran Mamdani delivered a stunning upset Tuesday night by winning the Democratic primary in New York City, Trump’s former hometown. The success of the 33-year-old Democratic socialist prompted Trump to attack the state assemblyman’s appearance, voice, and intelligence and “a 100% Communist Lunatic” charge at the former. “It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous,” Trump wrote. “He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!” he added. The remark marks Trump’s first public statement since Mamdani’s apparent win over former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary. With Mamdani as the likely Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, the general election campaign is expected to draw national attention as a test case for progressive politics in America’s largest city. Mamdani mayoral campaign included making city buses free, freezing rent increases on rent-stabilized apartments, and opening city-run grocery stores—funded by a $10 billion tax hike on businesses and the wealthy. He also made a strong pro-Palestinian stance by publicly stating that as mayor, he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visited New York, citing International Criminal Court arrest warrants issued in November 2024. Republicans have sought to portray Mamdani as the symbol of the Democratic party, while prominent conservative activists have linked Mamdani to 9/11 in online attacks targeting his faith.
