Thunderstorms to clear by weekend leaving Britain 'hotter than Rio', say Met Office

Baking Britain will be hotter than Rio de Janeiro this weekend as forecasters predict more warm weather . Temperatures are set to be higher in parts of the UK than the Brazilian beach hotspot with the Mercury reaching a sweltering 30C. Ahead of the weekend the Met Office said most of country will be humid with scattered showers and thunderstorms. But it will be good news for the 150,000 Glastonbury goers and other festival fans attending events this weekend. Despite some rain predicted yesterday for the opening day of the iconic music gig at Worthy Farm, Somerset, the weekend will see more hot weather. Forecaster Paul Gundersen said: 鈥淓lsewhere through Thursday, rain will move eastwards across the UK, clearing to showers, with some sunny spells breaking through at times. 鈥淔riday will start dry in the east, with rain moving in from the west, becoming showery later.鈥 Mr Gundersen said that most of the country will stay dry on Saturday, with a patch of rain moving south east and easing. Sunday is due to see 鈥渧ariable cloud and showers鈥 in the north, with 鈥減atchy rain and drizzle鈥 in the west, but otherwise stay dry with sunny spells.. It comes after Brits enjoyed more heat last weekend, with parts of the UK reaching 33C on Saturday – the hottest day so far this year. There is set to be more good weather next week, as 鈥渂rief bursts of hotter air encroach from the continent鈥. But there were warnings of more thunderstorms at times. Temperatures in July are also expected to be above average for most areas, with the South East facing 鈥渧ery warm or hot conditions鈥.
