For a band that only released music for about half a decade, Creedence Clearwater Revival has done incredibly well for itself, especially in the decades since the group disbanded. To this day, the American rock outfit remains on the Billboard charts almost without fail. The continued consumption of not just its most famous tunes, but even its lesser-known singles, is impressive.

Creedence Clearwater Revival recently scored several new awards from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), as a pair of decades-old tracks finally earned their first wins.

Two New Gold Records

Both “I Put a Spell on You” and “Long as I Can See the Light” have been certified gold by the RIAA. Gold is the lowest status a song or album can snag, and it鈥檚 where most releases get their start after moving 500,000 equivalent units between sales and streams throughout the United States.

Creedence Clearwater Revival鈥檚 Half-Century-Old Tunes

“I Put a Spell on You” and “Long as I Can See the Light” needed more than half a century to reach that milestone. The former was released in 1968 as a single from Creedence Clearwater Revival, the band鈥檚 self-titled debut album. The tune peaked at No. 58 on the Hot 100 just as the group was getting its start.

“Long as I Can See the Light,” meanwhile, was packaged as a double single with “Lookin鈥 Out My Back Door,” which is easily the more famous of the two. Those tracks were featured on Cosmo鈥檚 Factory, the band’s fifth full-length and final No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Half a Dozen Gold Smashes

Half a dozen of Creedence Clearwater Revival鈥檚 singles now sit at gold status. “I Put a Spell on You” and “Long as I Can See the Light” join “Travelin鈥 Band,” “Midnight Special,” “Lodi,” and “Sweet Hitch-Hiker” in that tier.

Creedence Clearwater Revival Approaches Diamond Status

As two Creedence Clearwater Revival tracks go gold for the first time, several other smashes advanced as well. “Fortunate Son” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” jumped from triple platinum to eight times platinum, while “Lookin鈥 Out My Back Door” and “Up Around the Bend” moved from platinum to double platinum.
