Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has officially been sworn in as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA). The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority is a state-owned entity responsible for managing and operating the country’s key maritime gateways—the Port of Tema and the Port of Takoradi. In collaboration with private sector partners, the GPHA oversees a wide range of port operations, including vessel handling, cargo transfer, stevedoring, storage, and both containerized and general cargo delivery. The Authority also ensures safety, security, and environmental conservancy within the ports.
A video captured by GhanaWeb Business showed Asiedu Nketia, dressed in a black suit and red tie, taking the oath of office alongside other newly appointed board members, including Professor Ransford Gyampo.
Asiedu Nketia brings a wealth of experience in public service. He is a trained teacher and former banker, who served as Member of Parliament for Wenchi West for 12 years. During his tenure in Parliament, he played key roles on several high-profile committees, including:

Finance Committee
Public Accounts Committee
Chairman, Mines and Energy Committee
He also served as the Minority Spokesperson on Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs, and was Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture (Crops) from 1997 to 2001.
The current Acting Director-General of GPHA is Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, who also serves as the Deputy Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies (NCDS) at Burma Camp.
Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono holds multiple advanced degrees, including:
A Master of Laws (LLM) in Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution from George Washington School of Law
A Master’s in Management Studies from Osmania University, India
A Master of Arts in International Affairs from the University of Ghana
He was called to the Ghana Bar in 2015.
