Swedish furniture store IKEA has announced plans to make a major change to its store restaurants in the aim of helping customers to save on costs when visiting its stores. Ingka Group, the largest IKEA retailer, has revealed that it will be halving the price of its restaurant meals for customers visiting stores from Monday to Friday. The deal will also be extended for children who will be able to eat for free in IKEA restaurants. The change comes as part of the retailer’s new efforts to support customers with costs by offering lower prices in their outlets. Tolga Öncü, Ingka Retail Manager (COO) at IKEA Retail said: “Food has always been very important for IKEA, and we wanted to enable even more people to enjoy our restaurant offer while exploring our home furnishing range. “Securing the lowest possible price for our products is always our utmost goal, and this is even more important in today’s times of economic uncertainties and cost-of-living pressures.” The change comes as part of the Ingka Group’ investment in customer’s in-store experiences, which the group hopes will allow people to stretch their budgets and afford greater nourishment for themselves and their families. The discount is expected to be applied to store restaurants across the UK, as well as many of the retailer’s stores elsewhere in the world. IKEA has also announced plans to expand its restaurant menu with a range of new dishes to offer customers more food choices. Lorena Lourido Gomez, Global Food Manager at IKEA Retail (Ingka Group) said: “We will soon launch our very first falafel, adding this popular food to our restaurants and, later, to our Swedish Food Markets. “Good quality, low price, and making a positive difference for the planet – those ingredients remain a guiding star for our food business.” Restaurant changes also come after the furniture retailer announced plans for three new store locations in the north west. The stores are part of IKEA’s expansion plans to open more stores closer to where customers “live, socialise, and do their weekly shop”.
