Port launches review following concerns over Tredrea's online content

Port Adelaide Football Club has launched a formal review into premiership captain Warren Tredrea’s position on their board, referencing concerns over recent online content.

On Wednesday, ABC News published comments from the Jewish Council of Australia, which condemned one of Tredrea’s Instagram posts, saying it promotes “far-right antisemitic conspiracy theories” and Holocaust denial.

In a video posted on Tredrea’s Instagram account, one of his podcast guests, AJ Roberts, makes statements about Israel, which he says is a “fake state” that was behind the creation of terror group ISIS.

The ABC contacted AJ Roberts for comment.

In a statement on Wednesday evening, Port Adelaide Football Club said it had initiated a formal governance review “regarding concerns raised about recent public content” shared by Tredrea.

The club’s chairman, David Koch, said their governance standards apply to all club officials.

“Directors and officials of the club are entitled to their personal views, however, there are concerns that recent content published is in breach of these standards,” he said.

“The club is committed to upholding the professional standards our members, partners, and the community expect and deserve.”

The club says Tredrea will maintain his position on the board until a determination is made.

Tredrea responded later on Wednesday in a social media post, defending his position.

“I unequivocally condemn war and genocide, and seek only to share other perspectives of what has been a very one-way reported narrative in the mainstream media,” he wrote on Instagram.

Tredrea was elected to the club’s board in 2024, narrowly beating Magpies legend Bruce Abernethy.

Last week, Mr Koch defended Tredrea’s position as a director on the club’s board following his appearance in federal court over a dispute with his former employer, Channel Nine, where he worked as a sports newsreader.

Tredrea had claimed Nine unfairly terminated his contract in 2022 because he refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine and had been seeking almost $6 million in lost wages.

The Federal Court dismissed his case last year after accepting Nine’s counter-argument that his contract was not going to be renewed because of his job performance.
