Labour MEP Thomas Bajada has won the ‘Best Newcomer’ award in the socialist and democrats group, given by the Brussels-based journal ‘The Parliament’. The Labour Party congratulated the young MP, saying the award reflected his hard work in the months since his election a year ago. Among other roles, Bajada was the lead negotiator of the European Parliament on the European Strategy on Water Resilience, which was adopted. He also participated in talks on a revision of regulations on actions against third countries in cases of unsustainable fishing. His report was also adopted unanimously. Bajada said he had gone into politics to listen, make a difference, change people’s lives and give a voice to those who didn’t have one, and he was committed to following along this path. The PL said the only Maltese to ever lift this award were Labour MEPs Alex Agius Saliba, Daniel Attard and Thomas Bajada.
