The Simpsons fans were left in shock when it was revealed that a pivotal character from the series would be “killed off”. Since its debut in 1989, the much-adored animated sitcom has broadcast 36 seasons, with the central family and surrounding characters having remained ageless. But for the first time, bosses have confirmed Marge’s death in a flash forward. In a recent instalment titled Estranger Things, Marge expresses concern over Bart and Lisa’s sibling bond as they grow older. A peek into the future, set 35 years later, shows Lisa leading an expectedly successful life, while Bart runs an unlicensed retirement home. Sadly, we learn Marge has passed away in her 70s, referred to posthumously as the “late mother”, reports the Express . While Marge is no longer with them, Homer and other familiar faces are still around, with Homer residing in a care facility in Florida. In a heartrending moment, Lisa reads a letter from Marge intended to be opened posthumously if Homer survived her, in which Marge implores her children to maintain their close ties. Amidst efforts by Lisa and Bart to spirit Homer away from his care home, an ethereal Marge beams down from a cloud, ascending heavenwards with assistance from The Beatles’ Ringo Starr. Fans were notably taken aback by the announcement of Marge’s death, though reassurance comes with news of her return in the forthcoming 37th season. “Wait, you killed off Marge Simpsons?” a fan expressed disbelief. Another exclaimed: “Yo they killed Marge off the Simpsons? ! ? ! ? ! What? ! ? !” And yet another fan voiced their shock with ‘WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY KILLED MARGE SIMPSON’. The precise details surrounding Marge’s death remain a mystery, though they may be unveiled in due course. In past episodes, Bart has also “temporarily died”, but the characters have invariably made a comeback. He was killed numerous times by Sideshow Bob in a Halloween special, Treehouse of Horror, and even succumbed to boredom in Lisa’s Thanksgiving tale in a season 35 episode.
