India’s go-to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was caught in the crossfire during India’s humiliating loss to England in Leeds on Tuesday. The drop catches by India were a topic of hot debate online. The batting collapse of India’s tail-enders was discussed. India’s debuting Test captain Shubman Gill’s rotation of bowlers was criticised. Jadeja’s contribution in the match was also questioned by online critics and commentors. A section of users on ‘X’ brought back the 36-year-old’s interview where he had asserted that Test captaincy was easier compared to the short formats of cricket.
Jadeja picked up the pricey wicket of England captain Ben Stokes but it was too little too late as England cruised to India’s target of 371 with five wickets secured. With the bat, Jadeja scored 11 in the first inning and remained unbeaten on 25* in the second.
Social Media Chatter
A glance on ‘X’ website indicated that the cricket fans were unhappy with Jadeja’s contribution in the Leeds Test.
“Jadeja is more tailender than tailenders when he is batting with tailenders,” remarked one user on ‘X’.

Another wondered why Axar Patel was missing from the squad.
– Better Bowler – Better Batsman– Better Fielder
Jadeja is playing over Axar Patel and Axar isn’t even in the squad, Unreal favouritism by Gambhir and BCCI

“Not getting wickets is one thing, but Jadeja refusing to do the basics and applying basic cricketing common sense even after 15 years of International cricket is just disappointing & frustrating. PS: The more India will see Jadeja bowl on flat wickets, the more they will value Ashwin, in even SENA tests,” a third user added.

Test Captaincy Is…
Social media users sharply escalated their criticism of the Indian all-rounder, referencing Jadeja’s earlier comments.

This was in the context of India being unable to bowl out England despite giving them a respectable target to chase.
“The Test format is as such, where you just have to change two or three fielders, according to the bowler. Not according to the batter,” Jadeja stated in an interview with R Ashwin for his YouTube channel.
“That’s why I say captaining in the Test format is different. It’s much simpler. It’s about reading when your bowler is in good rhythm and when to play him or not play him. When to bring in your main bowler.”

Support For Jadeja
There was a section of users who came out in support of Jadeja and thought that the all-rounder became the scapegoat during India’s loss when the other departments faltered in the contest.
“Jadeja might be the most disrespected all time test Great. The way some people talk about him will make you think he’s some failed cricketer,” a user wrote in support of Jadeja.

Some stats were also pulled to back Jadeja.

“He bowled his heart out on the last day. Had lot of revs on the ball. Landed in the correct areas. But Jadeja needs someone to help him with the field placements and suggestions on how to bowl. He always had someone to rely on,” a user on Reddit wrote. “First time he found no one in the cricket field to guide him. India needs a specialist spin coach. With no Ashwin, Virat, Rohit or a spinning coach, there is only GG left who understands spin. Jadeja is not a cricketing think tank, he is a top tier athlete who will perform what you want of him. He needs one. (sic)”
“He (Jadeja) bowled brilliantly, I think he did produce some chances for us, a few pop-ups that Rishabh (Pant) didn’t take. But that happens in any game of cricket, you kind of expect there would be some chances that wouldn’t go your way,” Shubman Gill, after the loss, said.
