Microsoft is on a massacre as after removing a workforce of around 6000 people the company is eyeing for a second round of layoff. This time, Microsoft is going to conduct another major layoff round in the Xbox gaming division. Multiple reports suggest that the next round of mass layoffs is part of company reorganization. Most of the managers in the Xbox unit are expecting a considerable cut-off. This will mark the fourth noticeable layoff round in a matter of just 18 months. According to a Bloomberg report, the layoffs are going to happen right around the fiscal year end of Microsoft (June 30), and this is an old practice of the firm. Xbox Gaming Division To Bear The Brunt Of The Upcoming Layoffs The Xbox gaming division of Microsoft has been in a sensitive place for a long time now. The senior officials of the division have been under immense pressure from Microsoft after the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard to generate profits. Since the acquisition, Xbox has witnessed two rounds of layoffs along with multiple game studio shutdowns. Some reports have it that Microsoft is focusing on restructuring Xbox distribution over central Europe. Apart from that, the layoffs will affect the marketing and sales division of Microsoft as well. It is being said that the Microsoft sales and marketing department is going to witness the strongest impact of these cuts. A Verge report related to the same suggested that these layoffs could possibly be due to a shift in priorities of the brand with the next-gen console on the card and the establishment of a seamless operational network before that. Additionally, the layoffs also suggest that Microsoft of investing heavily in AI and they are looking to strike a balance between the expenses with the eradication in action.
