The Black Country Party has confirmed it is recognised by the Electoral Commission which enforces rules for political parties and how elections are run.
Registration is a big step forward for new parties which must satisfy strict conditions in order to appear on ballot papers at election time.
Pete Lowe, leader of the Black Country Party said: 鈥淭his news is historic. We are now nationally recognised therefore allowing us to stand candidates and offer the bostin鈥 people of Dudley a real alternative to the tired Westminster parties who offer nothing to our communities.
鈥淲e will be community-led, be a voice for working-class people and be proudly anti-austerity and promote our local public services.鈥
New parties must be able to show the commission they have a proper structure, sound finances and can work within election law.
Party names must not be offensive or contain words including king, British, official or ratepayers unless they are combined with other words.
The commission also checks that party names and emblems will not confuse or mislead voters.
The Black Country Party was launched in May 2025 and has 1,200 followers on Facebook while it says 鈥榙ozens鈥 of fully paid-up members.
The party was formed from the Dudley Independent Group of Dudley councillors who are all ex-Labour Party members.
Cllr Steve Edwards, from The Black Country Party, said: 鈥淲e have been overwhelmed with the level of support.
鈥淲e have had members who have been disillusioned with their old party as well as many people who have never been involved in politics before.鈥
The Black Country Party currently has six members of Dudley Council, their message is to put the community before party politics and challenge the view that austerity is inevitable.
