Sod turned for $2.6b Christianburg Secondary in Linden

Government officials yesterday turned the sod for the construction of a new $2.6 billion Christianburg Multilateral School in Region 10, part of a national effort to improve access and quality in secondary education.

The project is being funded by the World Bank.

The sod was turned by Prime Minister Mark Phillips, Education Minister Priya Manickchand and Public Works Minister Juan Edghill among other officials.

The contract, valued at US$12.8 million (approximately $2.6 billion) was awarded to China Jiangxi Electric Power Construction Company. The school is expected to be completed in 17 months.

The new facility will replace the current Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School, which has long struggled with overcrowded classrooms and outdated infrastructure. Once completed, the modern campus will accommodate 1,000 students and include 35 classrooms, laboratories, a multipurpose and agriculture hall, an administrative block and other upgraded amenities.
