IGP Bolsters By-Election Security with AIGs, CPs Across 13 States

Ahead of the by-elections scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of senior police officers to ensure a secure and seamless electoral process across 13 states in Nigeria.

The deployments include Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) to oversee security operations in Jigawa, Edo, Ogun, Oyo, Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano, Taraba, Kogi, Niger, Enugu, and Zamfara.

These officers will support state police commissioners in maintaining order and safeguarding the electoral process, according to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Ogunjobi.

The by-elections, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will take place in 16 constituencies, including two senatorial districts in Anambra and Edo, five federal constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo, and nine state constituencies across Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano,
