Broadcaster Sanjana Ganesan has addressed the criticism that has been leveled against her spouse, Jasprit Bumrah, regarding his match fitness and his ability to show up when needed.
Bumrah put the doubts to rest as he took five scalps in the first innings of the ongoing Test series against England at Headingly. This led Sanjana to quip on Day 4 of the test that people make tend to make flash judgements of a person, based on what they see 鈥榦n a cricket field.鈥
Speaking to Sony Sports during Lunch, she remarked, 鈥淚n the short time that I鈥檝e known and been married to a professional athlete, I鈥檝e realised that people don鈥檛 know every aspect of your life 鈥 they only know what you choose to show them. They know Jasprit Bumrah on a cricket field, but they don鈥檛 know what he鈥檚 like at home or off the field.鈥
She also addressed that being public figures, it is bound to bring about a set of 鈥榦pinions鈥, and how important it is to separate the projection of the public from the reality of things. Expertly traversing the topic, she added:
鈥淪o, I鈥檝e tried to separate who we are as people from public opinion 鈥 and it鈥檚 just a lot more peaceful inside your head when you do that. But at the end of the day, you have to remember that people on both sides of every opinion are human beings, and you have to treat them with respect and kindness.鈥
On 15 March 2021, in Goa, Ganesan married Bumrah. The two first met during a 2013 Indian Premier League interview. Over time, they became friends and, after a two-year courtship, married in March 2021. Ganesan and Bumrah welcomed their son Angad on 4 September 2023. Bumrah, in an interview, stated he proposed to Ganesan in early November 2020, and they ultimately chose to marry on 15 March 2021.
England are currently trailing India at Headingly, and need a massive 350 runs in order to clinch the first match of the series. Bumrah鈥檚 contribution on the field has been commendable as he picked up his 14th five-wicket haul to halt England鈥檚 progress, and put them on the backfoot.
