Even calling midday 鈥渘oon鈥 can be a telltale sign, experts claim.聽

But according to Anna Pyshna, spokesperson at online language learning platform聽Preply, that鈥檚 not the only time-based language quirk to distinguish different generations.聽

鈥淵oung people are telling time differently,鈥 Pyshna shared.

鈥淭his move toward directness isn鈥檛 unique to telling time; it鈥檚 part of a wider linguistic trend among young people.鈥澛

How do different generations tell the time?Let鈥檚 take the time 8:45.聽

According to Preply鈥檚 research, 75% of Baby Boomers (born roughly between 1946 to 1964) and 70% of Gen X (born approximately 1965-1980) will read that as 鈥渜uarter to nine鈥.聽

But only 57% of Gen Z (born around 1997-2012) and a meagre 10% of Gen Alpha (born about 2012 onwards) will use that term.聽

Instead, Pyshna said, most younger people will opt for 鈥渆ight forty-five.鈥
