Thai family holds “wedding” for twin children
May the twins grow up with all the blessings this symbolic ceremony hopes to bring.
According to Must Share News, a Singapore-based news outlet, the wedding was held on June 28. The family offered a dowry of four million baht and gold, followed by blessings from the monks. The video has been widely shared across social media platforms, receiving multiple reactions from people. While some have embraced the cultural practice of the Thai people, others appeared intrigued. One wrote, 鈥淎 striking example of cultural beliefs shaping traditions.鈥
Notably, this is not a very uncommon practice in Thailand, as it is believed that opposite sex twins used to be lovers in their past lives, who are reborn as twins. To ward off bad luck, sickness, or accident in the current life, they must marry each other.
The practice has been passed down through generations in families, believed to bring harmony and longevity to the children鈥檚 lives. Jongkon Sonchai, the mother of the twins, shared that the kids were born on June 14, and they are four years old.
The marriage is not legally binding and is only done for ceremonial purposes. According to Hua Hin Today, the wedding of the twins must be done before their 10th birthday, as parents believe that they are born together with a shared karma.
