20-Year-Old Student Sexually Assaulted At IIT-Madras, Staff Held

A 20-year-old female student at IIT Madras was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man inside the campus premises while she was walking alone.
The incident took place when the accused, identified as 22-year-old Rohan Kumar, reportedly threatened her with a wooden log and sexually harassed her.
The student raised an alarm and immediately rushed to a nearby security guard, informing him about the assault.
The Chennai Police acted promptly based on the complaint filed by her and arrested the accused.
Rohan Kumar, a guest worker employed at an eatery within the IIT-Madras campus, is now in police custody.
A further investigation into the matter is underway.
In a separate incident that took place in West Bengal鈥檚 Kolkata, a female law student was allegedly gang-raped inside a law colleg in the Kasba area on June 25 by a former student and two college staff members.
The incident reportedly happened on June 25 between 7:30 pm and 8:50 pm and the accused have been identified as Manojit Mishra, 31, Zaib Ahmed, 19, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay, 20.
All three persons were produced before a court in Alipore on Friday and were sent to police custody till July 1.
The incident also sparked a political row with the BJP govt attacking CM Mamata Banerjee led TMC government in the state over the safety of women and girls in the state.
鈥淩apes have become a daily horror, and the state machinery continues to fail its daughters. Enough is enough. BJP will not stay silent. We will fight tooth and nail to end this rape culture that has flourished under TMC鈥檚 rule,鈥 the party said.
