Rachakonda SHE Teams have apprehended 141 individuals over the last fortnight for harassing women and girls in public places within the commissionerate limits. The offenders include 99 adults and 42 minors.

The SHE Teams have been patrolling bus stands, railway stations, metro stations, schools, colleges, vegetable markets, and other crowded locations in plainclothes. They have conducted decoy operations to catch individuals involved in stalking, verbal abuse, and other forms of harassment. Offenders were arrested based on evidence presented in court. Counselling sessions were also organised for them in the presence of their family members.

On Friday, the Rachakonda Women Safety Wing conducted a counselling session at the LB Nagar CP Camp Office. DCP of the Women Safety Wing, T Usharani, said that between June 1 and 15, the department received 163 complaints. Of these, 23 were related to phone harassment, 64 through social media and 76 were incidents of direct harassment. In addition to this, eight cases were booked under criminal sections, 78 were formally reported and 58 were handled through counselling.

In one case, a woman lodged a complaint against her brother, who allegedly mortgaged their parents’ property and forced their mother into an old-age home. He later began threatening and abusing the complainant and her husband over the phone, accusing her of having a bad character. A criminal case was registered and he was arrested.

In another case, a young woman working in a private firm was misled by a manager who promised to marry her and later backed out. He threatened to leak her personal photos if she revealed the matter. The accused was taken into custody and sent to jail.

In a separate incident, a school teacher was found sending obscene messages to a female colleague during midnight hours using multiple phone numbers. When the matter came to light, the victim approached the SHE Team. A case was registered and the accused was arrested.

At Tukkuguda bus stand, a man creating nuisance was detained by the Maheshwaram SHE Team and a case was filed at Pahadi Sharif police station.

Rachakonda Commissioner G Sudheer Babu said that the police is committed to protecting women and will not tolerate any form of harassment. Women can report incidents by sending a message to Rachakonda SHE Teams WhatsApp number 8712662111 or by contacting the local SHE Team officers in their area.
